Volunteer With Us - Navajo Nation

Navajo Nation Delivery

Take some time to learn about our most recent volunteering event.

On two separate dates, April 9th and 22-24th, and alongside an organization called "Sleep In Heavenly Peace" (SHP), the Fullerton Financial Planning team, along with our partners at LifeBridge Alliance, worked to prepare and deliver hand assembled bunk beds for children and families in need.

Let us share this story of compassion and humility with you.

We hope it will illuminate your heart and encourage you to participate in upcoming volunteer events.

On Saturday, April 9th, over 220 volunteers from SHP, LifeBridge, and FFP arrived at 7am to the parking lot of the Fullerton Financial Peoria office. In under three hours, 65 bunk beds were assembled; all of them starting from raw planks of lumber to sanded, stained, and meticulously constructed pieces for each bed.

On Friday, April 22, over 75 volunteers from the above mentioned groups, including a group from Salad and GO, gathered at Pure Heart Church in Glendale, AZ to load food, beverages, shoes, clothes, and the 65 beds into a caravan of vehicles. We then traveled Northeast to spend one night in Holbrook as we journeyed to reach the vast Navajo Nation.

On Saturday at 6AM our caravan left Holbrook and one hour later, entered the reservation, zealous for getting to work. Saturday was filled with immense teamwork and like a well oiled machine, the various stations were designated and set up. These were food and drink, adult clothing and shoes, child clothing and shoes, and full bunk bed assembly for delivery and pick-up. The early afternoon sun spread out its rays and like glitter, the shimmer of car windows and roofs could be seen driving in to receive their help. The line stretched nearly half a mile, continuously.

We worked joyfully with willing hands to serve this community with the hope they would see light of Christ shine through our good works. The gratitude we witnessed was beautiful, especially from the smallest members of the tribe; the children. Their smiling faces and ecstatic joy made each moment precious. After an exciting Saturday, we ventured into Flagstaff, AZ to spend our last night before driving back to Phoenix. Sunday was a day of reflection and gathering to rejoice in the opportunity to serve in love and humility. We returned home with overflowing hearts and eager minds to tell others of this amazing opportunity we were able to participate in.

Let's continue to work together as a nation of people who extend our hands to lift one another up in love so we may all enjoy each day (and night) a little more; we can show that it truly is better to give than to receive.

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Matthew 5:16

About Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a nonprofit that believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. That's where WE (us and YOU) come in. We will be working as a group of volunteers to build, assemble and eventually deliver top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need.

Volunteering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace can provide a number of wonderful benefits. Volunteers learn how to build bunk beds. They have a chance to learn how to use woodworking tools such as saws, drills, sanders, hammers and many other pieces of equipment. They learn how to measure, level and make true woodcuts. They learn how to sand and stain wood. They even get to see how branding a bed works!

Under the guidance of SHP chapter team members – build bunks in an assembly line setup. There are stations for sawing, sanding, drilling, assembling, staining, and branding the wood. What started as a pile of raw lumber from the hardware store becomes ready-to-deliver bunks for kids in need.

Don’t be intimidated by the noise, the sawdust, or the fact you’ve never touched a power tool before. We’re simply looking for willing hearts to help turn lumber into bunks. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
